McGill’s Knoxville Team Helps Communities Invest in Local Infrastructure
McGill Secured $1,889,993 in Funding for 3 Communities in Tennessee | March 15, 2022
At the end of January, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and the Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe approved $28.5 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). McGill’s Knoxville team contributed to these efforts by providing the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) for three of the grant recipients — Englewood, Jefferson City, and Ducktown, Tennessee.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CDBG FUNDS FOR COMMUNITIES IN TENNESSEE
The grants are allocated in accordance with priorities established through a public meeting procedure at the local community level. These funds can be used for a variety of projects, including water and sewer extensions and improvements, housing repair, and public health and safety initiatives.
A better quality of life for community residents and business owners will be made possible as a result of these enhancements, which will, in turn, benefit the entire state of Tennessee.
MCGILL’S INVOLVEMENT WITH THE CDBG PROCESS
McGill Knoxville Office Manager Jamie Carden said, “Most of the time the front end of the work to help these communities get the grants, is talking to the mayors, council, and utility leaders and seeing what their needs are. Once we establish those, the next step is coming back and putting together a PER for those projects. Then, we go on to help the communities with the CDBG application process.”
ENGLEWOOD, JEFFERSON CITY, AND DUCKTOWN
McGill assisted three communities in Tennessee with receiving CDBG grants, which totaled $1,889,993.
“Englewood is a dual-prong project that has collection and a pump station, Jefferson City is a sewer rehabilitation, so it is also a collection system, and then Ducktown is a water system rehabilitation,” explained Jamie.

Jamie noted, “In our Knoxville office, we are historically helping out with CDBG grants related to water and sewer rehabilitation.”
