Brunswick County, NC
Town Creek Park Design and Construction Administration
McGill assisted Brunswick County with park design and construction administration for Town Creek Park, to meet the needs of the community. Our team was involved from concept through construction, developing the Town Creek Park Master Plan and design documents. We assisted the County with applying for a PARTF grant to help fund the implementation of the design and, after securing the funds, we provided construction administration services.
The Challenge
The existing park did not meet the needs of community sports leagues. There were not enough fields and types of fields to accommodate the growing needs of the different sports teams and there was a lack of parking. In addition, there were space limitations to the existing site and there was a need for a land acquisition to design the appropriate fields. Another concern was accessibility and functionality of the park to accommodate a greater number of people.
Our Solution
McGill started this project by engaging the community and stakeholder groups to identify the needs of the community. Our team not only set out to update and modernize the park, but to appeal to contemporary recreation trends. McGill helped facilitate a land swap between county departments to meet the functional design of the park.
The Results
Town Creek Park includes a variety of new amenities, such as a baseball and softball complex, soccer and multipurpose fields, dog park, and walking trails. In addition, other facilities were renovated, including basketball courts, picnic areas, and a playground. Improvements also included restroom and concession buildings, expanded parking opportunities, and new surfacing and ADA accessibility.
