McGill Attends Bessemer City Water Intake Groundbreaking Ceremony

DSC 7010On September 1, 2022, members of the McGill team and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Bessemer City to celebrate the new water intake improvements.

MCGILL’S INVOLVEMENT WITH THE PROJECT

McGill assisted Bessemer City with the conceptual planning, funding applications, design, permitting, bidding, and construction phase services for the water treatment plant (WTP) and raw water intake improvements. A new raw water intake was constructed to include two new raw water pumps, valves, a water main, meter vaults, a backup emergency generator and transfer switch, and new electrical service. The WTP received a new electrical service along with new high service and backwash pumps to replace existing pumps and new chemical feed pumps and filter equipment.

McGill Principal and Vice President Doug Chapman said, “The project will provide the citizens with a safe and secure drinking water source for many years to come, providing replacement of aging equipment, upgrades to key water plant elements, and installation of a new raw water intake on the Arrowood Reservoir. This new intake will provide improved water quality through multiple intake points at different water levels and redundancy through the provision of a primary pump and a spare.”
