Fresh Perspectives: Meet McGill’s Summer 2024 Interns

McGill is excited to introduce our 2024 summer interns. Interns bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and innovation to the McGill team. Internships serve as a steppingstone into the workforce and provide an invaluable experience that nurtures growth and development personally and professionally.

We have 12 interns located in the Asheville, Hickory, Knoxville, Pinehurst, and Shallotte offices. Four of the 12 have previously interned with McGill and chose to return for additional experience. These interns are studying at Appalachian State University, Clemson University, Liberty University, North Carolina State University, Tennessee Tech University, University of Georgia, and University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition to the variety of universities represented, our interns are pursuing various majors like accounting, communication, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, and dual degree of Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Public Administration.  This variety brings unique perspectives to the team.

We reached out to the interns to learn why they chose McGill and what they were looking forward to at the start of the summer.

How did you find McGill?

Ben Howard: I originally found McGill through a shadowing program called Leadership 2000 my junior year of high school.

Sarah Robinson: I found out about McGill from a Civil Construction and Environmental Engineering career fair.

Lily Tunstall: I discovered McGill through Toni Shope, Director of Marketing at McGill and Dr. Mitchell, MPA Director at Appalachian State University.

Corinne Slutsky: My uncle, Mike Patton, Construction Services Practice Area Leader, has worked at McGill my whole life and has loved working here. I changed my major spring semester of my sophomore year, and he encouraged me to look at interning with McGill. Now I am back for my second summer and loving it.

Why did you choose McGill?

Sarah Robinson: McGill offered the most valuable internship. When interviewing, they told me I would be able to learn hands on and shape my internship to how I wanted it to be. They have exceeded my expectations and given me real work experience the classroom cannot offer.

Gracie Rudisill: I interned last summer at McGill and loved it. McGill is truly a community within the workplace, and everyone is so welcoming. You do not feel like you are just a number working here, which is what made me return to McGill this summer. They truly care about you as a person and want you to learn and succeed.

Tyler Long: McGill is family. It is a joy to work with each member of the team. Each day is an opportunity to learn new material and gain wisdom from those around me.

Joel Preston: I received a referral from a mentor to McGill.

What are you looking forward to most about interning at McGill this summer?

Ben Howard: I am looking forward to working with experienced engineers on real projects. This will, and already has, provided valuable experiences about what it actually means to be an engineer in a professional, post-graduation setting.

Dago Trinidad: I am excited to get the most experience I can in hopes that what I have learned from school correlates in some manner to what I want to do. I have also been looking forward to seeing job sites.

Alex Presley: I am looking forward to continuing to become more familiar with engineering software that I don’t have a lot of experience in.

Kinley Attaway: I look forward to getting hands-on-experience with engineering work and learning new skills.
