“Virginia is for Lovers” is one of the most iconic slogans in the world. As we wrap up our final installment of our “Spend Your Summer with McGill” series, McGill is highlighting some of the events you might “love” and don’t want to miss.
Below we have highlighted some of the events around our two offices in Roanoke and Williamsburg:
Town of Christiansburg
Join the City of Christiansburg for its Better Together Rockin’ Food Truck Rodeo. On September 14 from 3-9 pm in Downtown Christiansburg, you can enjoy food trucks and live music. To find out more, check the Facebook page.
City of Danville
Head to Danville Community Market for Music at the Market. Shows will be held July 11, August 8, and September 12 at 7 pm. To view the lineup, visit here.
City of Hopewell
Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with the City by participating in Community Appreciation Day. The event will be held in Crystal Lake Park on July 13 from 5-7 pm. There will be food, games, activities, and giveaways. For additional details, check out this link.
Join Hopewell’s Parks and Recreation for Movies in the Park. On July 13, enjoy a showing of Kung Fu Panda 4. On August 17, watch the Barbie movie. The movies will begin at 8:30 pm with activities beginning at 7:30 pm in Crystal Lake Park. Click here to head to the City of Hopewell’s site.
City of Lynchburg
Head to Downtown Lynchburg for its First Friday event. This event highlights local artists, performers, exhibits, and more. Different organizations are highlighted monthly, and locations change. To get all the details, visit the website.
City of Roanoke
Interested in hanging out with other young professionals and community members? Head to Downtown Roanoke for First Fridays: Party with a Purpose. This event is intended for those 21+ and includes live music, beverage vendors, and a food truck. For additional information, check out the event’s website.
Celebrate heading back to school with Roanoke’s Parks and Recreation at its PLAY-Palooza. This event will be held at Washington Park on August 9 from 2-6 pm. Enjoy bounce houses, food, and a DJ. City of Staunton
Spend Wednesday nights in Gypsy Hill Park for City of Staunton’s Parks and Recreation’s Wednesday Night Bluegrass. Enjoy free concerts beginning at 7 pm. Click here to view the talented lineup.
Town of Blacksburg

Art at the Market is an event on July 13, from 9 am to 2 pm, celebrating Blacksburg’s lively arts community. To learn more about this event, check out Downtown Blacksburg’s website.
The Steppin’ Out Street Festival showcases over 200 artists and craftsmen from across the country who offer one-of-a-kind handcrafted items. Items include jewelry, pottery, textiles, metalwork, basketry, stained and fused glass, yard art, fine art, furniture, toys, artisan foods, and much more! Town of Chilhowie
Join Chilhowie’s Parks and Recreation department at its 2024 Summer Concert Series. On July 20, August 17, and September 27, head to the Chilhowie Town Park Stage to enjoy live music and food trucks from 7-9. Explore the Town’s webpage to learn more.
Join the Chilhowie Police Department for the Cops and Rodders Community Cruise-In on July 13th! From 4-7 pm at the Farmers Market and Lucas Dowell Park, vintage cop cars, classic cars, hot rods, and more will be set up. There will be live music, a 50/50 raffle, food trucks, and door prizes. Town of Saltville
The Town of Saltville’s 53rd Annual Labor Day Celebration will be held August 30th through September 2 in Saltville Town Commons. Each evening from 4-10 pm, there will be live music, food trucks, vendors, and more. To learn more, check out the Town’s website.
